Russian studio GFA Games, in an interview with Wccftech, shared details about their new game PIONER.
Earlier this year, Russian game development studio GFA Games unveiled its survival MMOFPS game PIONER with a stunning trailer.
PIONER is an MMOFPS inspired by the Metro and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. Currently, 20 people are involved in the development, not including freelancers, and the team is in the process of significant expansion. The game is about half ready. The agreement with Tencent will allow developers to scale up the game and possibly release DLC.

World and Environment
PIONER’s game world is 50 square kilometres of open-world (excluding dungeons) filled with forests and plains. The game is set in the post-apocalyptic near future.
At the moment, the following mechanics are ready: equipment rating, item rarity, status effects, weapon damage, weapon range, weapon accuracy, weapon critical strike modifiers, and weight.
There will be no character development; however, players will need to rest and eat. The creators chose a more realistic model, in which the primary indicator of progress will be equipment and the level of influence of factions.
GFA Games claims that the adaptive combat system is a vital part of the game. The developers posted a video demonstrating it, and players will have the opportunity to watch it again in the first half of next year. It is also confirmed that the game will have bosses – unique monsters that cannot be dealt with alone. In addition to “motivated PvP” in Empty Lands, there will also be arenas with rating tables for those who want to “compete”.
Clans will have control over the lands, which will help develop the influence of the faction and clan. The faction system is not limited to the company; the levels of influence of factions are a crucial parameter for accessing new equipment and merchants.
The beta testing phase is expected to be open for players.
The creators have not yet decided whether the game will be released on Steam or the Epic Games Store. PIONER will be distributed on a B2P basis. The creators understand that B2P can look like a pig in a poke. For this reason, they plan to add a free trial period to familiarize themselves with the game before purchasing.
A final release on consoles is planned, and dates are already being negotiated.
The release is scheduled for 2022.
Currently, the developers are considering various options for technologies, including NVIDIA DLSS, DirectX 12 Ultimate features such as ray tracing, mesh shading, and variable speed shading.
