In the recent Battlefield 2042, there were more than enough reasons for criticism, and one of them was the change of the usual class system to specialists.
Players have already suspected that this introduced paid skins and microtransactions. But, according to Tom Henderson, this is just one of the reasons.
A well-known journalist, insider and source of many leaks reported that the upcoming part of Battlefield would be a “hero shooter” modelled on Overwatch or Apex Legends titles.
The specialist system will stay, and it will also be further developed. Moreover, from the beginning, Battlefield 2042 was intended to be a transition to a royal battle with the participation of heroes; it’s just that this transition went out of hand badly.
Henderson admits that his statement should be treated with a certain degree of scepticism. However, he has heard about such prospects for development, and everything that has been happening with the game in recent days plainly confirms his claims.
Currently, work on the next Battlefield has just begun, and if 2042 fails completely, this may signal changes. Experiments were previously carried out with the Battlefield Heroes, a Team Fortress 2 -like spin-off. But the “big” games have always followed a typical course.
DICE and EA are currently making several management changes and are planning to create a “Battlefield connected universe”.
